Smart expansion for Albert Heijn Gendt:more space, more experience
Smart expansion for Albert Heijn Gendt: more space, more experience.
In Gendt, Gelderland, franchisee Hans Geveling has expanded his Albert Heijn store to include the adjacent former drugstore. The result? A bright, transparent and future-proof supermarket ready for the next phase of customer experience.
From two properties to one entity
The expansion provided an opportunity to completely overhaul the store layout. Adding the former drugstore to the supermarket created a larger floor area and a new walking direction. The entrance is now accessible from two sides and leads directly to the service plaza – the beating heart of the store.
An open and bright entrance
The service plaza houses the service counter, flower and plant corner, parcel locker and the exit from the self-scanning plaza. Thanks to lower furniture and clever positioning of the skylight, daylight falls deep into the store. This creates an open, convenient and inviting entrance.
Making smart use of existing structures
The concatenation of properties also presented challenges, such as the presence of columns. By carefully integrating these into the new layout, an optimal store routing was created. Where possible, reuse was chosen: the floor, facade, revolving doors, Gall & Gall and parts of the ceiling were retained.
Fresh, drink and experience
After entering, the customer immediately enters the fresh food plaza, with the drinks corner behind it. The bread department is positioned more centrally and a wide middle path leads the customer past action heads and the Always Low assortment. At the end of this path, a large orange area draws attention to the offers.
A store ready for the future
