New store formatfrom pilot to scale

For a new store format to really work, design, process and rollout must be one.

For DekaMarkt, we worked with Creative Formula, Twelve and the DekaMarkt team to develop and realize the new store formula. The first full implementation is visible in DekaMarkt Castricum: a store with more tranquility, more focus on fresh and strong local anchoring – without losing the core of DekaMarkt.
Our role was in the translation from formula to practice: ensuring that the new formula is not only convincing as a concept, but repeatable, executable and scalable.

 

 

From formula development to working pilots

During the design phase, we worked with all parties involved to fit the new formula into the pilot stores. That meant testing, honing and drawing with one clear goal – a formula that can be applied consistently in every store.

The pilot in Castricum served as both a content and technical test. Here routing, finishing, waste presentation and local accents came together in a calm and clear store image. The insights from this pilot were immediately translated into drawings and standards, laying the foundation for further rollout.

 

 

 

 

 

Process optimization for pace and control

 

A new formula requires more than good designs. It requires a process that can handle scale.
We set up the drawing and deployment process so that:
  • pilot stores could be worked out efficiently;
  • learning points were directly incorporated into the standard;
  • the transition to roll-out could take place without delay.
Bringing structure to phasing, coordination and decision-making created a grip on planning, quality and progress – essential in a project in which several renovations follow each year.

 

One sign standard for all stores

 

In cooperation with project management agency Jezz we determined the drawing standard for the new DekaMarkt formula. This standard forms the basis for:
  • consistent elaboration by location;
  • clear transfer to implementation;
  • Controllable costs and lead times during rollout.
Not every store the same, but every store to the same standard.

The opening of DekaMarkt Castricum marks the first step in a multi-year rollout of the new formula. Thanks to the combination of a tested pilot concept, a tightly designed process and a clear drawing standard, DekaMarkt is ready to scale up in a controlled and predictable way.
That’s where formula development really delivers value.
