This week her name is Peter.

We don’t have Peter.

And our CEO/Managing director is not a woman either. But we do write about the action of Women Inc. ‘My name is Peter’. Because where Women Inc. it is about is close to our heart.

What do we have? 50% of operational managers are women. Our Finance/HR manager is female. This means we have 2 women in our four-man MT.

We average a 60-40 male to female ratio across the entire team . In equal positions. With equal duties. With equal opportunities. With equal salaries. Years ago we equalized salaries to avoid gender gaps .

But we are not there yet: the reflection in our top is not yet the same. That’s not because we don’t want to. And we’re not saying it can’t be done. We are on our way and doing our best, but we are not there yet. So this message is not a pat on the back, but a promise: we are on the way.

My mother was a working mother while my father worked and studied. And in the eighties I got a lot of questions in the schoolyard: ‘does your mother work’? That was not so common then. And certainly not if your father was still there and your parents were still married (divorce was also something very special back then). My goal is to be the last generation to feel uncomfortable with this in the school yard. In my career I have had several female managers, and I really liked that. We are not there yet: and so many with us. But we endorse the goal of the Women Inc ‘my name is Peter’ action: more women at the top.

Her name is Peter this week to draw attention to the following: in the Netherlands there are more CEOs named Peter than CEOs who are women. Such a lack of diversity at the top should not exist. For example, women are strongly underrepresented in decision-making positions, while it has been proven that diversity at the top yields benefits. This must be different! That is why I call on all women in my network to speak out about this. Women are changing their first name this week on LinkedIn to Peter to make this visible.
