Opening expansion Rembrandtweg
New energy in Stadshart Amstelveen
Opening marks new phase – from store floor to shop floor
With the festive opening of the renewed Rembrandthof on the Rembrandtweg, Stadshart Amstelveen has reached a new milestone. What began as an ambitious redevelopment plan has now become visible, tangible and experienceable for visitors, entrepreneurs and the city.
During the official opening, it became clear what this development stands for: a future-proof city center where retail, hospitality and experience come together to form one inviting destination.

A new destination in the making
With the expansion of the Rembrandthof, leading brands such as Nike, Rituals, Intertoys XL, Sojubar and My Jewellery have found their place on the Rembrandtweg.
Initial reactions are positive: visitors appreciate both the renewed offerings and the appearance of the area.
Moreover, the opening – performed by Mayor Tjapko Poppens and URW COO Vincent Jean-Pierre – underscored the importance of cooperation. Municipality, owner and all partners involved worked together to create a future-proof city center.
After the official moment, the area was literally brought to life: a spectacular wall dance along the facade, accompanied by music and theater, gave a taste of the energy that the City Heart now exudes.
Behind the scenes: the office as engine
What visitors experience on the street often begins behind the scenes. In this project, an important foundation lies in the new offices of Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (URW) in Amstelveen – the heart from which the Stadshart will be managed.
For this office building above and behind the addition, NewArmstrong took care of the complete engineering and project management: from a finished design to producing a tender set, tendering to supervising the execution and delivery.
The office was developed as a multipurpose building including
- head office URW
- management office Stadshart
- freely leasable offices.
- a central event space
The challenge was not only in the design, but precisely in the context:
an office in the middle of a vibrant retail environment, with logistical constraints, tight deadlines and continuous use of the building.
This is where good project management provides the difference:
connecting ambition, technology and reality.

From plan to place
The opening of the Rembrandt Court shows what happens when vision and execution come together.
First there are plans. Then drawings. Then comes the complexity of construction.
And finally – the moment when everything falls together and a place really starts to live.
For NewArmstrong, this project means exactly what we stand for:
not just designing or guiding, but contributing to places that work – for users, visitors and the city.
